Our Tree Trimming Services

Depending on your tree, there are many goals and reasons to trim a tree. Some of the types of trimming we offer to our customers include:

Elevation Trimming

Elevation trimming, also known as canopy lifting, focuses on removing lower branches to improve clearance under the tree. This trimming also allows more light to reach your grass, making it healthier and more vibrant.

Thinning

Thinning involves the targeted removal of specific branches to reduce canopy density and improve air circulation and light penetration. Even light thinning can make a big difference for trees.

Deadwooding

Deadwooding focuses on removing branches that no longer serve a purpose for a tree, such as dead, diseased, or broken ones. This greatly improves a tree’s ability to withstand storm damage.

Reduction Trimming

Reduction trimming decreases the size of the canopy to make a tree more compact by removing the ends of specific branches. This service lowers the risk of failure in a storm and provides clearance for structures.

When Is the Best Time to Have Your Trees Trimmed?

Tree trimming can be done year-round, but each season has a different purpose:

  • Winter is ideal for major trimming. Trees are dormant, and without leaves, it’s easier to see their structure and make clean cuts.

  • Spring is the best time to trim most flowering trees. Wait until just after they finish blooming to avoid cutting off next year’s buds.

  • Summer is great for thinning and shaping. With the canopy fully leafed out, we can clearly see what to remove to improve structure and reduce weight.

  • Fall is suited for light pruning, mainly focused on removing dead or damaged branches before winter sets in.

Signs It’s Time to Trim a Tree

There are many goals to trimming. Some of the things you should look for in your tree that tell you it is time for trimming include:

  • Dead Branches: If you notice dead branches or patches in the canopy, it’s a sign your trees could benefit from a trim.

  • Storm Damage: Trimming after a storm will remove damaged branches and leave a tree sturdier from future harm.

  • Low Light Penetration: Look at how much sunlight pokes through your tree in the summer to determine if the canopy is too dense and needs trimming.

  • Competing Branches: Two branches competing for space will rub against each other and cause damage; trim one to leave a healthy branch.

Tree Trimming FAQs

When we talk to customers about trimming, they often have plenty of questions about the service and why we do it. To help you better understand its importance, we’ve answered some of the frequently asked questions about it.

Any kind of trimming will cause some stress to a tree. However, when done right, trimming does not cause long-term harm to a tree and helps it grow healthier.

Trimming a tree yourself opens both you and the tree up to harm. To ensure you don’t hurt yourself or damage the development of the tree, have a professional handle the job.

Depending on the tree’s location, we will either have our team climb into the tree or use a bucket truck. We then use rigging to lower the cut branches to the ground without harming your property.

This answer will vary wildly depending on the condition and age of your trees. Generally speaking, for mature trees, we recommend trimming every 3-5 years. However, if your tree hasn’t had trimming in many years, we may need to work on it more frequently until it is no longer overgrown.

For young trees, we typically recommend trimming every 2-3 years to help shape them and promote good growth habits.

The cost will fluctuate depending on how many trees you plan to have our team trim and their condition, size, and location. That’s why we need to see the trees in person, so we can get an idea of everything before we provide an estimate.
